West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov. 12.
For the 21st consecutive year, the City of West Des Moines has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award for Outstanding Budget Presentation.
This award for the current budget (FY July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020) represents a significant achievement for the City and reflects the commitment of the City Council and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation that assess how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories.
City Manager Tom Hadden said the Finance Department works with all City departments to produce an informative budget document for the public. “Our hope is that when our residents have questions about how their government funds City services, they will take the time to look online and read about how their tax dollars are spent.”
