City of Waukee issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.
New City signs are sprouting up throughout Waukee as the first two phases of the Waukee Community Entrance and Placename Signage Project kick off. City staff has been working with Shive-Hattery Architecture + Engineering to develop a family of signs and an implementation plan to introduce new entrance signs, wayfinding signs and locator signs in the community. The goals of this project go beyond branding, as the new signs aim to help drivers know when they are in Waukee and as the project progresses will help people find their way to notable destinations such as parks, City buildings and more.
As part of the City Hall facade renovations, a new City Hall sign was installed on Thursday, Nov. 14 (photo to the right). That same day, a new monument sign was installed on the eastern Waukee entrance on University Avenue (bottom left); this sign illuminates at night a. Vertical Waukee-branded markers were installed on Friday, Nov. 15 at Fox Creek Park, Trailside Dog Park (bottom right) and Waukee's new Westown Meadows Park. The five signs were fabricated by Hilton Displays, LLC, which was the lowest bidder at $74,083.76 on May 15, 2019.
Phase 3 of the plan will take place in 2020 with the addition of a large monument sign welcoming drivers to Waukee as the drive west on Hickman Road; this sign will be located just east of the Alice's Road intersection. Banners, median markers and landscaping on Alice's Road will be installed. Neighborhood signs will also go in at Boone Drive and University and near the Walnut Creek Little League fields where Clive and Waukee boundaries touch.
