West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Dec. 6.
Matthew McKinney, Chair of the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce announced current President & CEO, Carole Chambers, will retire effective May 1, 2020. Chambers has been the organization’s chief executive officer since March 27, 2017.
“The Board of Directors appreciates how Carole has led this chamber for almost three years. Her leadership has resulted in expanded services to small businesses, membership and revenue growth, and significant focus on workforce development initiatives. Thanks to Carole’s leadership and tireless effort as CEO, our chamber is well positioned to move into the next decade,” stated McKinney.
During Chambers’ tenure, chamber membership has grown by 30% with total assets’ growth increasing by 40% as of November 30, 2019. New programs and annual events created under her watch include YURtern, West Des Moines’ college intern summer program, the bi-monthly publication of the West Des Moines Weekender, The Economic Update, First Responders Breakfast and EATweek – WDM’s answer to restaurant week. Chambers was also the driving force behind the 2018 launch of Metro-wide Mentoring for Women which involved 13 local chambers and grew to 19 chambers in 2019.
“I’m so grateful to have served West Des Moines in this role. Our small but mighty chamber staff has made a significant impact in our business community and it will continue to do so in the future. I’ve had the pleasure to work with a really great team! I’ve never looked at this position as ‘doing a job’. Rather, I’ve had the joy of living out my passion,” Chambers stated.
