City of Waukee issued the following announcement on Dec. 9.
December is Food For Fines Month at the Waukee Public Library! Bring in any non-perishable food items to pay off your fines. Each item equals $1 off existing fines (up to $20 per person). All donations will go to the Waukee Area Food Pantry.
The Food Pantry's most needed items include:
Non-Perishable Foods
- Boxed dinners—tuna/hamburger helper and other complete meals
- Canned fruit—pears, peaches, fruit cocktail, applesauce, mandarin oranges
- Canned meals—stews, ravioli
- Canned meat—tuna, chicken
- Canned vegetables—corn, green beans, peas, carrots, spinach
- Cereal
- Chili beans/Pork and beans
- Cookies—dessert items
- Crackers—saltine
- Instant potatoes
- Jell-O/pudding
- Juice or drink mixes
- Macaroni and cheese
- Muffin mix/biscuit mix
- Pancake mix and syrup
- Peanut butter and jelly
- Pizza mix and sauce
- Rice
- Soup
- Spaghetti and spaghetti sauce
- Baby wipes
- Bar soap
- Diapers
- Dish soap
- Kleenex
- Laundry soap
- Paper towels
- Shampoo/conditioner
- Toilet paper
- Toothpaste/toothbrush
