City of Wes Des Moines issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
West Des Moines City Hall and most City offices will be closed for the holidays on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 25, 2019, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020. Recycling and garbage collection will be delayed one day following the holidays on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, with Friday’s collection occurring on Saturday.
Residents will have one more chance to dispose of yard waste and real (not artificial) Christmas trees during a special Winter Collection period, which takes place from Dec. 30, 2019 ‒ Jan. 10, 2020.
During Winter Collection, residents will be able to dispose of Christmas trees by placing a Compost It! sticker on each tree. All trees must be free of decorations. Wreaths and garland are not accepted. Stickers are sold at participating grocery and hardware stores for $1.25/each.
Since Winter Collection is the last opportunity to dispose of yard waste before spring, be sure to use Compost It! bags, attach a Compost It! sticker to generic bags, or use your Compost It! yard waste cart to ensure yard waste is picked up by collection crews.
