CITY OF WAUKEE: Waukee Fire Department Promotes Tysdal and Frederick

City of Waukee issued the following announcement on Feb. 10.

The Waukee Fire Department recently promoted Captain Tomme Tysdal to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Inspector Justin Frederick to the rank of Fire Marshal.

Deputy Fire Chief Tysdal has been a member of the department since 2007 and has worked in the fire protection service since 1999. He holds a master’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis on Government and Policy as well as the Executive Fire Officer designation from the National Fire Academy. Tysdal, who is second in command in the department, leads operations and training. His new positions is overall a new position for the department and is integral to the success of Waukee’s team of firefighter/paramedics.

Fire Marshal Frederick was promoted to the new position of Fire Marshal; the position was created to keep up with the incredible growth of the Waukee community. Frederick’s duties include reviewing and approving construction plans, conducting life safety inspections during all phases of commercial construction and fire prevention outreach. Frederick started with the department in 2007 and became a full-time employee in 2012. He has excelled in using technology to make the inspection division more efficient for firefighters and business owners. He also now serves as the President of the Iowa Fire Marshal’s Association.
