The deadline to apply for a job at the IRS’s call center in Des Moines is days away.
The hourly rate for these seasonal positions is just under $17, said Spokesman Chris Miller, and up to 150 people are expected to be hired.
There is only one other IRS call center in the country hiring as many workers as the Iowa center.
A financial background is not necessary, Miller said. All call center employers will be trained to properly handle taxpayers' questions. Relevant work experience and education or a combination of both are taken into consideration so interested candidates shouldn’t be deterred from applying if they don’t have accounting experience.
Employees will be taking calls from across the country.
The positions generally last from March through September. It is not uncommon for seasonal workers to return each tax season to assist callers, Miller said.
Interested candidates can apply online at usajobs.gov and search “Des Moines.”
