West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Mar. 11.

In a board meeting yesterday afternoon, the West Des Moines Chamber Board of Directors has named Katherine Harrington to succeed Carole Chambers as the organization’s new president and chief executive officer. Harrington is the current Director of Innovation at Des Moines Business Publications Corporation and brings to the position a wealth of knowledge and experience in marketing and promoting businesses and the community as a top-rated place to work, live and play.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Katherine’s caliber and experience to step up to lead the chamber.  We are at a critical moment and Katherine’s ideas and innovation will fuel the momentum that Carole has begun,” said Board Chair Chris Nelson.  Speaking on behalf of the board Nelson said, “We have new members, new programs and events, and a new way of looking at what a chamber should be to take advantage of the market opportunities that lie ahead.  Katherine is a visionary with a proven track record of execution. She is a strong communicator with deep roots in the West Des Moines community and a passion for collaboration and building teams to be the best.“

The selection committee’s goal was to find a successor who could keep the momentum that has been built during Chambers’ tenure, and take the organization to the next level.

“I could not be more grateful or excited for this opportunity,” said Harrington. “We will set the tone and lead our region to the next level of growth and influence in the nation.”

The Board of Directors wish to thank Carole Chambers for her exemplary service to the West Des Moines business community and beyond.  Chambers’ retirement is slated for early April after Harrington transitions into the CEO role beginning on April 1, 2020.
