City of West Des Moines issued the following announcement on Mar. 31.
The package says it's "flushable," but is it really? The answer is NO!
While these items might go down your toilet, they will clog your sanitary sewer line. And that will lead to expensive repairs.
Disposable brushes, wipes, tampons applicators, tampons, and other items may say "flushable" on the label, but they can still clog your sewer line.
Toilet paper is manufactured to break down in water, but other items, such as paper towels and disinfectant/baby wipes, do not break down. This means they can get stuck in your sewer pipe and cost a lot of money for plumbing repairs and cleanup.
Don't spend your money on a completely unnecessary sewer backup. Only toilet paper should be flushed down your toilet. Any other items should be placed in your garbage.
