An Iowa Department of Human Services employee has allegedly filed over $10,000 of improper travel claims.

According to KCCI, State Auditor Rob Sand explained that a social worker from Dallas County claimed over $3,100 in mileage that exceeded general travel allowances in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Additionally, the employee claimed reimbursement for what she claimed was work-related travel when she was sick or out of work on vacation.

Department officials were suspicious of the employee and requested that a special investigation be started into her actions.

Sand has filed copies of the report on this improper behavior with the Des Moines police, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Polk County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.

The name of the social worker had not been released to the public as of April 9.

Rob Sand has been serving as the Iowas State Auditor since 2019.
