City of Waukee issued the following announcement on Apr. 18.
The Waukee Parks & Recreation Department is encouraging residents to pick up trash in their neighborhoods as a way to celebrate Earth Day on April 22. It’s a great solo activity during this era of social distancing. Help us keep Waukee clean and beautiful!
If you’re planning to take a walk or a bike ride through your neighborhood, consider making it an eco-walk or eco-ride. Pick up trash on the ground which may have been blown around on one of the recent windy days in Waukee. Cleaning up litter is a great way to get outside for some fresh air and give back to the community (and environment). It is especially helpful to waterways, as neighborhood litter can make its way into storm drains and then carried to a stream or creek.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, it is recommended that Earth Day trash cleaners wear protective great such as rubber or nitrile gloves when handling trash. If gloves are unavailable, a trash grabber or trash poker can be helpful. These can be easily ordered online or purchased at a local hardware store.
Post photos of your beautification efforts using hashtag #waukeeearthday by April 26, and you will be entered to win a prize in a random drawing!
