City of West Des Moines issued the following announcement on July 15.
West Des Moines residents are asked to use Metro Waste Authority’s Compost It! program and place storm-related yard debris on the curb prior to 7 a.m. on their regular garbage collection day.
Yard debris should be placed in Compost It! bags which can be purchased at local grocery, convenience and hardware stores. A yard waste sticker is not required if Compost It! is printed on the front of the bag. If generic lawn bags are used, yard waste stickers must be purchased ($1.25 per sticker) and placed on each bag. There is no limit to the number of yard waste bags that can be put on the curb for collection.
Residents also may bundle brush in bundles no more than 18 inches in diameter and no longer than 4 feet in length. Bundles should not exceed 40 pounds and must be bound with rope, twine or string. One yard waste sticker must be attached to each bundle.
Any tree debris that has fallen on City right-of-way is the responsibility of the adjacent property owner. Residents may use the Compost It! program or dispose of the debris in any other legal manner (composting or hauling to a conforming off-site disposal location).
Tree debris on private property is the responsibility of the property owner.
