CITY OF WAUKEE: Mayor Clarke Signs Resolution Encouraging Public Health Practices

Webp contract07

City of Waukee issued the following announcement on Aug. 3.

The safety of Waukee community members has always been a top priority for City leaders and has become a particular focus since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The City has taken a number of steps to protect its residents and staff with increased safety measures and operational changes. On Aug. 3, Waukee Mayor Courtney Clarke signed a resolution, unanimously approved by the Waukee City Council, encouraging the observance of public health practices like social distancing, increased handwashing and the use of face coverings in Waukee in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

"I believe we all want the same thing, and that is a healthy community," Mayor Clarke said. "We want a physically, mentally, financially and economically healthy community. Wearing masks and taking other steps enables us to continue to move forward more safely. So I am asking everyone to help care for the health of our community."

By following the recommended guidance of CDC health officials, Waukee residents can play an important role in protecting each other. If residents do not feel well or have been sick, they are encouraged to stay home. While visiting any public space, use best judgment and act responsibly; wear a mask, bring sanitation supplies and adhere to recommended guidelines of social distancing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cloth face coverings are a critical tool in the fight against COVID-19. “We are not defenseless against COVID-19,” said CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield. “Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus – particularly when used universally within a community setting. All Americans have a responsibility to protect themselves, their families and their communities.”

The City of Waukee appreciates the public’s understanding in this always changing environment. Visit www.Waukee.org/COVID19 for additional information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on City operations.
