West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Aug. 5.
The West Des Moines Historical Society is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2020. Formed in 1970 to save the historic Jordan House, home of early Central Iowa pioneer James Jordan and site of the Underground Railroad, the West Des Moines Historical Society’s mission is to preserve, protect and educate. To celebrate the path from the past to today, the Society announces “Pathway To History,” an opportunity to show support and leave a permanent mark on the community.
Pathway To History is a garden paver project launched August 5. Plans include a brick path in the front yard garden of the Jordan House Museum (2001 Fuller Road) and surrounding the flagpole at the address. Supporters can personalize a brick in honor or in memory of a loved one, celebrate a special event or even send a fun message to the thousands of adults and children who visit the museum every year. The bricks are a special tribute and create a lasting legacy celebrating history in West Des Moines.
Bricks come in two sizes: 4x8 for $50 and 8x8 for $100. The first installation of the pavers is planned for Spring 2021, and the first ordering deadline is December 15, 2020. For more information or to order online, go to www.wdmhs.org or call 225-1286.
