City of Waukee issued the following announcement on Aug. 16.
Water and Wastewater Workers Week is August 16-22 throughout Iowa. The City of Waukee thanks our water and wastewater (sewer) operators! Their daily work helps to preserve and protect public health and promotes sustainability in our way of living.
About the Water Department:
The City of Waukee Water Utility operates and maintains approximately 94 miles of water main, 2,625 valves, 1,236 hydrants, 6,341 water meters, two elevated water storage facilities (each with 500,000 gallons capacity), two water booster stations and two connections to Des Moines Water Works. The City receives water capacity from both Des Moines Water Works and the LP Moon Storage Tank.
About the Wastewater Department:
In 2020, the City of Waukee deconstructed its wastewater treatment plant and built gravity trunk sewer to connect Waukee’s system to the WRA’s sanitary sewer system. This connection allows for the entire community’s sanitary sewer utility (which consists of 113.75 miles of gravity sewer, 16.65 miles of pressure sewer and 2,516 manholes) to flow to the WRA Wastewater Reclamation Facility (WRF). That’s 1.91 million gallons per day!
