Last month’s derecho wind storm inflicted a little over $9 million worth of property damage in Dallas County.
The estimate does not include the county’s share in Iowa’s 10 million acres of damaged crops and 25 million bushels of stored grain destroyed, The Perry News reported.
Dallas County Emergency Management Coordinator A. J. Seely told the Dallas County Board of Supervisors that the damage was limited to the northern part of the county.
Seely estimated that 198 residential homes – including three that were totally destroyed – suffered up to $2.6 million in damage. Most of the homes sustained cosmetic damage. He said that 34 commercial properties sustained $5.2 million in damage and governmental infrastructure an additional $1.5 million.
Debris removal will cost the county up to $4 million. Seely told The Perry News the figures are subject to change.
Dallas County was among the 22 Iowa counties made eligible for financial assistance from the state.
