A mask mandate will possibly go into effect in the City of Waukee after Waukee Mayor Courtney Clarke received updated COVID-19 case numbers from the Dallas County Public Health Department.
Clarke previously delayed an emergency proclamation set to go into effect Sept. 18 that required “face coverings in public places in Waukee,” in order to review updated data specific to Waukee, which has 24,089 residents, according to a press release.
KCCI reported on Sept. 23 that Clarke could proceed with the “enforced mask mandate at some point” because Waukee’s COVID-19 cases “are higher than we thought.”
“The City of Waukee makes up for about 25% of Dallas County's population. This leads city officials to believe that Waukee is responsible for about 25% of Dallas County's COVID-19 cases,” KCCI reported. “Clarke said the city's 14-day average for active cases has been at least 60 since July. The rest of Dallas County communities are relatively low.”
