The West Des Moines Human Services program, an initiative designed to help those with necessities such as housing and electricity, is now accepting applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for the 2020-2021 cycle, according to a city press release.
Households that have an elderly member (aged 60 years or older) beginning on Oct. 1, will be eligible to apply early and be given preference. All others in need will be able to apply starting Monday, Nov. 2 and the application cycle will be available until April of 2021.
The LIHEAP program is available to help disadvantaged members of the community offset a portion of their heating costs over the winter. Though the program is intended to help, it is not intended to completely offset all costs related to heating. To apply for assistance, request an application from the WDM Human Services Department, which can process the application by phone, fax or email.
To apply, be prepared to provide proof of income, valid identification, most recent heating/electricity bill and landlord information if applicable.
