WEST DES MOINES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: WDM Chamber Unveils New Committee Focused on Community Events

West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Oct. 20.

The West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce (WDM Chamber) today announced the date for the first meeting of their newly established Explore WDM Committee. This committee, headed by WDM Chamber Vice Chair Therese Wielage, was formed to help amplify West Des Moines (WDM) venues and to attract and  create events for the entire region to enjoy.

The WDM Chamber’s recently revised vision statement is to make West Des Moines the best suburban city in America to live, work, and play. The Explore WDM Committee is meant to help realize this vision by exposing more people to the dynamic area, add to workforce attraction and retention efforts, and boost quality of life in accordance with the City of West Des Moines’ 2036 strategic plan.

“We are so lucky that our event assets are growing and include the new Racoon River Boat House and Jamie Hurd Amphitheater. Plus the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex will be completed spring of 2021,” said Katherine Harrington, President and CEO of the WDM Chamber, “Our exciting entertainment districts including Valley Junction, West Glen, Jordan Creek Town Center, and more are prime locations for events, festivals, concerts, races, and we want to be ready for when it is safe to gather in person when we get through COVID-19. Now is the time to build for the future and connect with the community on what our local and regional event needs are. We want to work in tandem with the region and compliment what is already going on in Central Iowa so that we can help lift the entire region up, which helps us all.”

By bringing and hosting new events for the community, this will also help to support area retail, restaurants, and hotel venues.

”Not only will we shine a bigger spotlight on the great work our Chamber is doing, but we can aspire to so much more,” said Therese Wielage, Chair of the committee. “Now, when more people are looking for alternatives to travel and destinations for their business and personal events, is the time for us to be innovative and enhance our quality of life.”

The committees first meeting will be held over Zoom on Friday, November 6 from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Meetings will then occur biweekly. If you are interested in joining the committee or learning more, email Therese Wielage at twielage@merchantsbonding.com.
