West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Dec. 1.
The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, is going “beyond the table” this fall to further the commitment of the annual Greater Des Moines Heart Ball. Anchored in a new year-round activation, Heart of Greater Des Moines is focused on taking action to target hypertension and education of hands-only CPR in the Greater Des Moines area. The campaign is chaired by Bob Montgomery, Vice President and General Manager with OnMedia.
Hypertension was selected by Montgomery and the Executive Leadership Team as an area of focus because we know 33 percent of Iowans have been told by a health professional that they have high blood pressure. Globally this is an area of work prioritized by the American Heart Association.
Sponsored by OnMedia and UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, Heart of Greater Des Moines officially launched on November 24, 2020. The chair shared that they have a $300,000 campaign goal.
“Our vision for the Heart of Greater Des Moines campaign is to deep dive into issues that our community faces and bring together our combined strength to drive change and make a difference,” said Montgomery. “This year we will be putting a spotlight on reducing blood pressure, driving longer, healthier lives through CPR, and effects of COVID-19. The collective work of the American Heart Association, volunteers- like you and I - as well as companies and businesses, uniting for a singular heath endeavor is how we can impact the future.”
The on-going American Heart Association campaign will feature multiple touchpoints throughout the year and culminate with a Heart Ball event in June 2021. Those interested in joining in the Heart of Greater Des Moines campaign or making a pledge should visit www.heart.org/dsmheartball
