WAUKEE COMMUNITY SCHOOL: Ice Cream Class Project at Timberline

Icecream

Waukee Community School issued the following announcement on June 01.

It’s no secret, kids love ice cream.

“I look for a chocolate flavor, I love chocolate stuff,” says Zach Wagener.

So a recent “research project” is right up their alley. Home Sweet Cone is opening this summer in Waukee and they needed a little flavor feedback.

“We were rating flavors. They were all super good. We were having a good time, we were laughing,” say Wagener.

Ice cream class projects are the best kind of class projects, but there is work involved.  It’s important work, especially during this part of the year.

“The main idea I think was to not only promote a new business in the community, but to sharpen some skills as far as social skills and some writing skills,” says Level 3 Special Education Teacher Beth Snyder. “We combined those two things.”

Ice cream during the school day is tough to beat. But sometimes those conversations separating the scoops, are even more important.

“We really do have really good kids and caring kids,” says Snyder. “When we do things like this, I’m never disappointed with the way it turns out, because we are in a community of parents that have raised really good kids.”

Of course those kids now have a new ice cream shop in town.  After several scoops in this project, they might be the first in line on opening day.

“I’ll try and get my family there, I can put in a good work of recommendation for them,” says Gavin Lambertsen.

“It was really good ice cream, I loved it. I can’t wait for this place to open,” adds Wagener.
