VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL WEST DES MOINES: Valley Girls’ Soccer Crowned Class 3A State Champions

Valley

Valley High School West Des Moines issued the following announcement.

State. CHAMPS!

The top-seeded Valley High School varsity girls’ soccer team toppled No. 7 Ankeny 1-0 in the Class 3A title game of the Iowa high school state tournament on Friday, June 11, at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines.

With the victory, the Tigers finish the 2021 campaign with a 21-1 overall record.

Valley scored early in the first half of Friday’s 3A championship when senior Catie Johnson nailed a penalty kick, marking her 20th goal of the season. Holding the 1-0 advantage after the first half of play, Valley kept the Hawkette defense at bay the rest of the way in an action-packed second half.

This is Valley’s seventh state title in program history, all under 25th-year head coach Rob Chapman. Valley’s previous state girls’ soccer championships were captured in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010.

Lydia Anderson, Emma Byrne, Catie Johnson, and Anastacia Spaine were named to the 3A all-tournament team, with Johnson being recognized as the captain.

The Tiger players and coaches will be celebrated at Valley Fieldhouse at 6:30 p.m. Follow @vhstigers on Twitter for updates.

Congratulations, Valley Girls’ Soccer! #RollTigers
