Warrior Lane/Ashworth Drive Roundabout Now Open

Road

City of Waukee issued the following announcement on August 19.

Aug. 19 Update:

The new four-leg, one-lane roundabout located at Warrior Lane and Ashworth Drive is now open. Northview Drive is no longer a through street. With these improvements in place, pedestrians will cross only one lane of traffic at a time before reaching a landing zone, meaning they only need to watch for vehicles coming from one direction at a time. As drivers get used to this intersection, please slow down when approaching, and yield to vehicles and pedestrians. Landscaping and other median work continues, so please yield to construction crews as well. Learn more about navigating roundabout intersections.

June 1st Update:

Ashworth Drive, just east and west of Warrior Lane is now closed. This will shut down the five-way intersection located at Warrior Lane and Ashworth Drive for the remainder of the summer, to allow construction crews to build the new four-leg roundabout intersection. The Heart of the Warrior Trail will not be impacted immediately, however, there may be temporary closures to allow utility crossings. The portion of the Heart of the Warrior Trail between Windfield Park and SE Olson Drive may be used as a temporary route for emergency services during the closure of the five-way intersection. If trail users see emergency vehicles on the trail, they should clear the trail to give space for the vehicles to safely pass. Waukee Middle School's north entrance on Warrior Lane will be closed. See staging and detour maps.

Stage 1 roadway improvements began on S. Warrior Lane on Monday, March 15. S. Warrior Lane is now closed from Ashworth Drive south to the north driveway of Waukee Middle School. Northview Drive and Bel Aire Drive will both be closed to through traffic at S. Warrior Lane. See Stage 1 site map.

Sidewalks on the east side of Warrior Lane will remain open for the remainder of the 2021 spring Waukee Community School District semester. All Waukee Middle School driveways will remain open during that time period as well. Pedestrian access to S. Warrior Lane from the west will be made available at the Bel Aire Drive crossing.

Detour signs will be posted during construction. Drivers wishing to access Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waukee Middle School, the Waukee Public Library and other destinations located south of the five-way intersection will need to utilize Ashworth Road, University Avenue and/or S. Warrior Lane. Residents located in the adjacent neighborhood to the west of the five-way stop intersection will need to take Northview Drive west to 2nd Street and then exit onto Ashworth Road. See Stage 1 detour map.

It is necessary to close a portion of S. Warrior Lane during the spring school semester in order to complete the full Warrior Lane Improvements project prior to the start of the 2021-2022 school year in August 2021. Thank you for your patience as the City of Waukee works to make traffic more efficient and to improve safety.
