The University of Iowa Hawkeyes recently shut out the University of New Hampshire Wildcats with a 3-0 win in field hockey.
The Hawkeyes are the third-ranked team in field hockey and the win over New Hampshire is the team’s third straight victory to open the 2021 season, according to Hawkeye Sports.
“Our backfield and goalkeeping were fantastic today,” Iowa head coach Lisa Cellucci said, according to a press release. “They organized well and came up with some big tackles to preserve the shutout.”
“UNH is a great team and posed some unique challenges today. It was great to get on the board early and continue to build momentum as the game progressed,” Cellucci added.
The Wildcats' goalkeeper Jemma Woods made 11 saves, matching her personal best, stopping five shots in the third quarter, according to UNH Athletics. UNH now stands at 1-3.
"Similar to the Louisville game last week, our goal was to step up to the challenge of their depth and ability and I thought we did a good job," UNH head coach Robin Balducci said. "We held them for a bit after they scored an early goal. We tightened things up."
Hawkeyes Esme Gibson, Ellie Holley and Lokke Stribos each scored a goal for the Hawkeyes while goalie Grace McGuire was made two saves, Hawkeye Sports reported.
The Hawkeyes next face Boston on Sunday at 12 p.m. at New Balance Field. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
