City of Des Moines issued the following announcement.
This Saturday, the parking lots at the Bell Avenue Business Park on the City's south side won't sit empty. The lot at 1901 Bell Ave. will be full of large roll-off dumpsters that will be waiting to be filled by hundreds of Des Moines residents at the last 2021 MEGA SCRUB event hosted by the City of Des Moines Public Works Department.
"These events are the most anticipated of our SCRUB season,” Public Works Director Jonathan Gano said. “That’s because they offer a great chance for residents who are in the middle of spring cleaning or working on projects that produce a lot of waste to improve their property and get rid of things for free. Typically, we see hundreds of cars go through each of our neighborhood MEGA SCRUB events and we anticipate a large turnout for the last MEGA SCRUB event of the year."
While the City hosts SCRUB events every month from March through November, and two SCRUB events remain in October and November, tomorrow's MEGA SCRUB event is the last opportunity of the year for residents to dispose of an expanded list of items for free, including bulk items, appliances, household hazardous waste, and tires.
The MEGA SCRUB event will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bell Avenue Business Park (1901 Bell Ave.) and is open to Des Moines residents only. Proof of residency is required and is accepted in the form of photo ID or a current utility bill.
