City of West Des Moines issued the following announcement on September 23.
A major traffic switch will take place in a busy area of West Des Moines on Monday, September 27. Construction crews will open Grand Avenue from 1st Street to the previous Wendy’s site and close Grand Avenue between the previous Wendy’s site to just east of 5th Street. The work on this phase of the project is scheduled to last through late November.
View a map of the general location of the closure. Green highlighted areas will be open on Monday, September 27, and the blue area will be closed until late fall.
Crews have been working on this major Grand Avenue reconstruction project since April. All existing pavement in the area will be removed and crews will widen the road. Storm and sanitary sewer improvements also will be completed to help reduce flooding in the area.
