Figures released from the Iowa Department of Public Health show that the number of Iowans who have tested positive for coronavirus remained steady at the end of September, while officials continue to stress the importance of protecting yourself by getting vaccinated.
As of Sept. 27, the 14-day positivity rate remained at 9.5% in Iowa, which was unchanged from Sept. 24, according to a KCCI.
"#VaccinesWork for everyone, red or blue!! Red Covid," the Boone County Iowa Democrats wrote in a Sept. 27 tweet.
KCCI reported that 26% of the positive cases in the state were under the age of 18, but only 3% of hospitalizations came from people in the same age group.
The state's COVID-19 dashboard showed that as of Oct. 5, 3,500,405 doses of the vaccine have been administered. According to the dashboard, 66.4% of people over the age of 18 are now fully vaccinated and 68.8% of people ages 12 and older have received at least one shot.
To date, 6,554 Iowans have died from COVID-19, with 89 of those deaths happening between Aug. 4 and Sept. 30, according to figures on the state dashboard. There are currently 626 patients hospitalized with the virus.
