The University of Iowa's field hockey team recently defeated Rutgers during a closely contested game, according to Hawkeye Sports.
The final score of the game was 2-1, advancing the Iowa Hawkeyes 11-0 overall with the victory, marking the strongest start for the team since 1992.
"No. 1 Iowa field hockey team defeats No. 6 Rutgers 2-1 in New Jersey,” HawkFanatic announced on Twitter.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Iowa surged in the second, scoring two goals in the span of 16 seconds to claim a 2-0 lead.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights scored their lone goal of the game in the fourth quarter, breaking Iowa's eight-game shutout streak, according to a release from Scarlet Knights.
The victory marks Iowa's fourth in a row against a top-six opponent and sixth overall over a nationally rated rival.
