Iowa football defeated Colorado State.
The game was rarely easy for Iowa, SB Nation reported. This was due to Colorado State’s management of field position, clock and turnovers.
“The Hawkeyes are undefeated. Iowa: 24, Colorado State: 14,” the University of Iowa said in a post to its official Twitter account after the game.
This was Spencer Petras’ most prolific day in his career. He finished the game with 224 yards on 15/23 passing with two TDs and one interception, SB Nation reported. This is Iowa’s 10th consecutive win, making it the team’s longest streak since winning 12 games to open the 2015 season, the Associated Press reported.
This was game was considerably more challenging than Iowa's other wins this season, where they won easily. In particular, Iowa struggled to run the ball during this game and was held to just 54 team rushing yards, according to SB Nation. Colorado State was also the first Iowa opponent this season to receive the opening kickoff.
Further problems for Iowa occurred on special teams, a shanked punt once set Colorado State up with good field position which they converted into a touchdown to take a 14-7 lead at halftime. Fortunately for Iowa their defense played well in the second half and gave up no more points, enabling them to come back and win the game. In particular, Iowa held Colorado State to just 2/10 in second half third down attempts.
