Oskaloosa-native Xavier Foster is no longer a member of the Iowa State men's basketball team, a decision that came from head coach T.J. Otzelberger in an announcement made Oct. 8.

Although the college's athletics department hasn't said why Foster was taken off the roster, his removal from the team came as police have said he's being investigated in connection to a sexual assault claim, according to a report by the Associated Press that was posted on KCRG.

"We hold our program to high standards and there are expectations that our student-athletes be accountable both on and off the court," Otzelberger said in a statement, according to KCCI. "After much consideration, I have decided that this is necessary as we continue to build our culture."

KCCI reported that although Foster hasn't been formally charged with a crime, he is being investigated in the alleged sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman last year. Investigators filed search warrants to obtain a DNA sample from Foster back in June.

According to the report on KCRG, the alleged assault happened at a party in October of last year and investigators used a cheek swab to obtain Foster's DNA sample.

Foster only played in seven games last season due to an injury, according to KCCI.
