Funeral arrangements have been prepared for Iowa state trooper Ted Benda, who died from injuries sustained in a car crash earlier this month.
In a report by the Police Tribune, the Iowa State Patrol shared condolences for the late trooper, stating he was not only a valuable part of the Department of Public Safety, but a loving husband, father, son and brother.
"Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here," the article says.
Benda was involved in a single-vehicle crash Oct. 14, according to a report by WXOW, while on the way to assist the Clayton County sheriff's office with a wanted suspect. After being airlifted to the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Benda succumbed to his injuries six days later.
A public visitation was scheduled Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. On Wednesday, a public funeral will take place at 11 a.m. at Waukon High School, followed by a private burial.
Benda started working in law enforcement in 2005 and had been with the Iowa State Patrol since 2016, according to a report by KMCH. He served District 8 in Mason City and had most recently worked out of the District 10 office in Oelwein.
