A weakness for the Iowa State men’s basketball team served as a strength in the Cyclones’ 82-47 win over Grambling State at Hilton Coliseum on Nov. 21.
Previously shooting barely 23% from behind the three-point arc, the Cyclones went on a 13-for-25 barrage, or 52% against the Tigers, the Des Moines Register reported.
The improvement in long-distance shooting was much-needed for a 4-0 program that will be in the Big Apple to compete in the NIT Season Tip-Off as of this writing.
“Whew! Iowa State men’s basketball looks terrific tonight versus Grambling State,” journalist-turned substitute teacher Deidre Baker tweeted postgame. “Shades of yesteryear.”
Aljaž Kunc, a transfer to Ames from Washington State, enjoyed a perfect shooting night — 7-for-7, 5-5 on three-pointers — to lead all Cyclones scorers with 21 points, the Des Moines Register reported.
The 22-year-old Slovenian forward also grabbed seven rebounds and distributed three assists.
Tristan Enaruna almost turned in a double-double, completing the hot Kunc with 5 points, nine rebounds, a block and a steal in 24 minutes, according to the publication.
The first half was essentially a three-point shooting clinic for Iowa State, with nine drilled.
Overall, the Cyclones made a respectable 46% of their shots and out-rebounded the visitors 46-22, according to 247 Sports.
