Instead of wrestling the Oregon State, Iowa's wrestling team beat Army West Point on the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 28.
Owing to some mechanical problems in the plane, Oregon State couldn't make it to the match, and thus, after a series of events, Iowa wrestled the Black Knights, hawk Central reported.
"Great day for Iowa Wrestling — thank you to Army for coming to wrestle! @FightForIowa," Ryan Ahlers tweeted.
The Iowa wrestling team won the match against Army West Point 36-7. Travel difficulties kept Oregon State from making the trip to the match.
"I give them praise and thanks," Iowa coach Tom Brands said afterward. "We owe them a lot of gratitude. That's number one, to Army."
Hawkeye Jesse Ybarra debuted in the Carver-Hawkeye Arena during this match.
"It was definitely nerve-racking because I felt the crowd more than I thought I was going to," Ybarra said, according to Hawkeye Sports. "I wasn't able to get to my offense but that's going to change the next time I go out there. I just realized a little too late that I should've opened up my offense sooner."
Iowa had a 30-4 advantage in takedowns during the match. Going forward, on Dec. 5, the Hawkeyes and Cyclones are scheduled to meet each other at Hilton Coliseum.
