Keegan Murray had a career high of 35 points on the game, which led Iowa in scoring.
"The potential of this team is that we have multiple guys who can be effective, and some of them in different ways," coach Fran McCaffery told Hawkeye Sports following the game.
A capacity crowd of 3,250 Iowa fans attended the game, Hawk Central reported. After the victory, Iowa stood at 8-3, with their next game against Southeastern Louisiana. The game was nominally a neutral site game at the Sanford Pentagon, although Iowa fans dominated in the stands and made up the bulk of the crowd.
The Iowa team improved in this game, in particular Murray, who was held to just 9 points the game before, prior to his 35 point explosion against Utah State. Nine points was a season low for him, followed by his career high.
Of Murray's 35 points, 25 came in the first half as Iowa pulled away early. His shooting was outstanding throughout the game with his going 13 for 17 from the field and 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Other players had good scoring games as well, with Kris Murray scoring 17 points, Patrick McCaffery scoring 12 points and Jordan Bohannon finishing the game with 11 points.
