The University of Iowa's upcoming women's basketball game against Illinois has been delayed, as a result of COVID-19 concerns, according to a Iowa News Now.
The game was postponed due to a "abundance of caution" owing to a high number of positive COVID-19 test results from the Illinois team, according to the Iowa Hawkeyes' official website.
"Iowa-Illinois game postponed; B1G will try to reschedule Sunday's contest," Hawkeye Nation announced on Twitter on Dec. 29.
The decision to postpone the game was made in accordance with the procedures set by the Big Ten Conference, the medical personnel of Illinois and Iowa Athletics and in collaboration with the university, municipal and national officials and standards, Iowa News Now reported.
The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. The Conference office will facilitate the rescheduling process.
However, if the game is unable to be rescheduled, it will be considered a "no contest" for both teams.
Additionally, the Hawkeyes' Dec. 30 game against Penn State was also postponed due to concerns over positive cases of COVID-19 among the Nittany Lions' basketball team, Fan Nation reported.
The Iowa Hawkeyes are still scheduled to play against Northwestern on Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.
The game will begin at 7 p.m. CT and be broadcast on the B1G Network.
