City of Urbandale recently issued the following announcement.
The outdoor warning sirens will not be tested this Saturday. The long-held practice of testing the sirens on the first Saturday of the month during cold weather is changing to help prevent damage to the sirens.
The City will no longer test the sirens when the weather is freezing or if there is a chance of ice on the sirens. Ice can be a significant problem for the sirens and can cause damage.
Even without this monthly testing in the colder winter months, the outdoor warning sirens are always monitored remotely to verify proper working order.
