Snow Removal Reminders

42

City of Windsor Heights recently issued the following announcement.

Here it comes! More snow is in the forecast for Saturday (1/1/22) with some very cold temps. With all snowstorms, please remember these snow removal reminders.

  • Don't park on the street when it snows and 24 hours after the snowfall ends. Failure to do so may result in a $25 citation (City Code 60.10.10 & 60.11.03).
  • Don't push snow from your property into the street
  • Clear sidewalks within 48 hours after snowfall ends
Empty streets make it easier and safer for our plows to clear the streets if needed. Thank you for doing your part!

Operations — Order that Streets Are Cleared

Snow removal is considered primarily to be a function of emergency operations. The top priority for snow removal is opening up streets so that police cars, fire engines, and ambulances can respond to emergencies. The second priority for snow removal is access in and out of driveways for residents. Operations are prioritized as follows:

  • Priority 1 — Major Streets/Collectors (blizzard or blowing snow conditions, maybe require repeat attention before moving to Priority 2)
  • Priority 2 — Hills and Ice Prone Areas (to minimize the potential for accidents)
  • Priority 3 — Residential Side Streets
  • Priority 4 — Trails, Public Facilities, and Public Parking Spaces
If your street has not been plowed, it is because we are working on opening up the main thoroughfares. Our snow removal operations do not stop until all streets have been cleared. If you think that a plow driver has missed your street, please call City Hall at 515-279-3662.

The Iowa DOT does snow removal on I-235 and 63rd Street (Highway 28) through Windsor Heights.
