The Waukee Police Department is seeking residents with outdoor security cameras to sign up for its Community Camera Program.
The goal of the Waukee Community Camera Program is to deter crime and promote partnership. Video surveillance cameras are not just a great tool for homeowners; they are also helpful for police. That is why the Waukee Police Department is asking people to register their cameras.
Neighborhood canvasses take time, and time can be critical when officers are looking for information quickly and are trying to narrow down who was or was not in an area.
How does the program work?
The Waukee Community Camera Program allows residents and business owners to register locations and capabilities of security camera systems with the Waukee Police Department. Using this information when a crime occurs, the department will know the locations of nearby video cameras, will be able to collect any related evidence and can follow up on leads.
The Waukee Police Department will only contact registered camera owners if a criminal incident occurs within the vicinity of the respective security camera and if the officers think the footage would assist in the investigation.
