The results of the 2022 Citizen Survey confirm that West Des Moines continues to set the standard for City service delivery both regionally and nationally.
Most (94%) of residents surveyed, who had an opinion, were satisfied with their overall quality of life in West Des Moines; 94% were satisfied with their overall feeling of safety and 93% were satisfied with the overall image of the City.
Ninety-three percent (93%) of the residents surveyed, who had an opinion, were satisfied with the quality of police, fire and emergency medical services; 93% were satisfied with the city’s parks, recreation, programs and facilities; and 91% were satisfied with the maintenance of city buildings and facilities. Residents were least satisfied with the enforcement of code violations (63%).
City Manager Tom Hadden said he’s excited to see that West Des Moines continues to set a high bar for service delivery. “It’s a team effort, and our employees are the best,” he said. “It’s gratifying to know our work is valued by our residents.”
The City scored significantly above the Plains state regional average and the National average in all 51 areas that were assessed in the survey. Residents overall satisfaction with City Services is 42% above the National average and 40% above the Plains state regional average.
Over the next two years, residents think City leaders should emphasize the (1) overall quality of the City street system, (2) overall traffic flow management in the City and (3) the quality of City water services.
The survey was administered by mail and online to a random sample of households in West Des Moines. ETC Institute says 417 households participated, which gives the survey a 95% level of confidence with a precision of at least +/- 4.8%.
