The Ankeny Police Department cordially invites the public to join in the celebration of National Police Week by attending the 2023 Ankeny Police Week Community Picnic. This event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 18 from 4-7 p.m. at the Ankeny Police Headquarters located at 411 SW Ordnance Road in Ankeny.

During the picnic, residents will have the opportunity to meet and interact with Ankeny police officers and detectives. Participants will also be able to view Ankeny's classic 1964 police car, CSI van, Ankeny Fire Department vehicles, and other equipment used by officers. Ankeny Police Headquarters tours will be available, and the Life Flight helicopter will land in front of the station during this event.

In addition, the first 1,000 attendees will be served a complimentary meal by Chick-Fil-A, and Kona Ice will provide free snow cones while supplies last courtesy of the Ankeny Police Foundation and the Iowa Soybean Association. This event is free and open to the public

The Ankeny Police Week Community Picnic is designed to foster ongoing communication and relationships between the local Police Department and Ankeny residents while providing valuable community service.

National Police Week is celebrated annually during the week of May 15. This week serves as a designated time to honor and celebrate police officers and the important work they do in our nation's communities. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week.
