On Wednesday, May 24th at approximately 9:03am, West Des Moines Police responded to reports of a traffic accident at the intersection of Ashworth and 22nd Street.  Officers arrived on scene and determined a van had lost control and stuck a power pole, causing significant electrical outages to the area.  The driver has been treated by EMS for minor injuries and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Police immediately contacted Mid-American Energy to report the power outage and request restoration services.  At this time, it is being reported that electrical services will be out for an extended period in the area of Ashworth Road and 22nd Street.  Repair crews are on scene and will have 22nd Street closed to through traffic from Woodland Avenue to Ashworth Road.  It is estimated these affected roadways could remain closed for up to 8-10 hours.  West Des Moines Police are asking the public to please avoid the area until further notice.
