Beginning Monday, June 5 the SW Oralabor Road and SW State Street Intersection Improvements and Oralabor Gateway Trail SW State Street Underpass projects will begin. This is a two-year project and work will be completed in several stages during the 2023 and 2024 construction seasons. During the first stage, right turns onto northbound SW State Street will not be allowed. The marked detour will be SW Oralabor Road, SW Irvinedale Drive, and SW Vintage Parkway. At least one through lane of traffic will be maintained in all directions during the construction season. The work in 2023 is anticipated to last until October.
This project includes the construction of a pedestrian underpass/tunnel for the Oralabor Gateway Trail under SW State Street and the widening of the SW Oralabor Road and SW State Street intersection to provide dual left turn lanes, two through lanes, and a right turn lane on all legs. A new traffic signal will also be installed at the intersection. The work in 2023 consists of adding turn lanes and widening on SW Oralabor Road and the north leg of SW State Street. In 2024, new turn lanes and widening on the south leg of SW State Street will be completed and the pedestrian underpass/tunnel on the south leg of SW State Street for the Oralabor Gateway Trail will be constructed.
The SW Oralabor Road and SW State Street Intersection Improvements and Oralabor Gateway Trail SW State Street Underpass projects are part of the City of Ankeny Capital Improvement Program, a five-year plan for scheduling capital projects and long-term debt.
