City Manager Tom Hadden is pleased to announce that Ryan Moffatt has been selected as the City’s new Community and Economic Development Director. Moffatt will take over for Clyde Evans, who will be retiring on July 17 after serving as Director for 32 years.

Moffatt will begin his new position in West Des Moines on June 12 so that he has a month to work directly with Evans and visit with site selectors.

He has been employed with the City of Des Moines since 2005, most recently as an Economic Development Coordinator. He has experience with a wide array of economic development work that crosses many real estate sectors. During his time with the City of Des Moines, he has specialized in downtown and corridor redevelopment efforts.

Before serving as Economic Development Coordinator, Moffatt served as a Project Manager with the City of Des Moines Office of Economic Development and a Senior City Planner with the Community Development Department. Prior to his tenure with Des Moines, he was a regional planner with MIDAS Council of Governments.

He has a bachelor of science in Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University and a master’s of Public Administration (MPA) from Drake University.

Moffatt also is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), a board member of the Iowa Commercial Real Estate Association (2020 – 2023) and a graduate of Drake University’s Certified Public Management Program (CPM).
