West Des Moines residents may bring scrap appliances and metal to the West Des Moines Public Services East facility, 560 S. 16th Street, on Saturday, June 10, from 8 a.m. to 12:00 (noon). This event occurs the Saturday after Spring Cleanup (June 5 – 9). Since appliances are not accepted during Spring Cleanup, it’s best to bring them to the drop-off event on June 10.

Some of the items that will be accepted free of charge include general scrap metal and the following:
Air conditioners, furnaces, washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers, water heaters, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, fax machines, copiers, computer servers, computer towers, printers, video gaming systems, VCRs, DVD players, batteries (lead, acid), cell phones, exercise equipment, metal cabinets, metal chairs/lawn furniture, sinks, metal bed frames, riding and walk behind lawnmowers, snow blowers, bikes and tricycles, cameras, pots, pans, blenders, mixers, toasters, vacuums, weed eaters, speakers, stereo systems and fans.

Televisions and computer monitors will be accepted for a fee ($25/each, regardless of size). Cash or check only.

For those who have city provided solid waste pickup, flat screen or tube-style TVs and monitors may be put out for curbside collection by attaching the appropriate $5.00 large item sticker(s). For more information about large item stickers, visit www.WhereItShouldGo.com.

Items that will NOT be accepted include: Anything with food in it, chemicals, garbage, light bulbs, paint, plastics and wood.

Personnel will be available to assist residents with unloading items. The paper shredding truck will not be at this event. Please note that a second Scrap Appliance & Metal Dropoff will be held later this year on Saturday, September 9.

If you have questions, call the Public Services Department at 515-222-3480 between 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
