City Hall and most City offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday. Garbage collection will be delayed one day after the holiday with Friday’s collection occurring on Saturday.
WDM City Council meeting moves to Wednesday
Due to the holiday on Tuesday, the regular meeting of the WDM City Council will be held on Wednesday, July 5, at 5:30 p.m.
Independence Day Parade
The Independence Day parade will be held on Monday, July 3, at 6:30 p.m. This year’s parade route starts at Valley West Drive and Ashworth Road and ends at 4th Street and Maple in Valley Junction. (See attached map.)
Free WDM Community Band Concert
Join us for a fun concert of patriotic favorites on Tuesday, July 4, at 7 p.m. on the back patio of City Hall, 4200 Mills Civic Parkway.
WDM Fireworks Display
The West Des Moines Fireworks Display will be held at dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m.) on Tuesday, July 4, on the City/School Campus (4200 Mills Civic Parkway) by City Hall. Fireworks will not be held at Raccoon River Park. Spectators are allowed at the City/School Campus, and parking lots will open at 7:00 p.m. (See attached map.) No parking is allowed at Furry Friends Refuge (3503 Mills Civic Parkway). Alcohol and grills are not permitted on the City/School Campus. Learn more about additional Independence Day activities.
Consumer Fireworks are not allowed to be discharged in WDM
For your safety and the safety of others, the use of consumer fireworks in West Des Moines is not allowed at any time. This includes, but is not limited to, shells and mortars, roman candles, bottle rockets, fountains, and firecrackers. Sparklers, snakes and party snappers are allowed.
Please be considerate of your neighbors and leave the fireworks displays to the professionals!
Mosquito control
If mosquito populations are elevated, the West Des Moines Public Services Department will be spraying in various City parks, weather permitting, during the evening hours of Wednesday, June 28, through Monday, July 3.
