'He will be missed,' states Westwood superintendent after Iowa boy dies in homecoming incident

Candlelightvigil

The family of an Iowa boy are mourning his death following a tragic homecoming incident Sept. 24, when he fell off of a parade float he was on and was run over.

The child was 12-year-old Kage McDonald who was a middle school student at Westwood, KCCI reported.

"Kage had an enormous heart and I enjoyed every interaction I had with him. He was a tough kid who worked hard at everything he did. He will be missed and remembered by all who knew him,” Westwood Superintendent Jay Lutt said in a statement

The incident took place Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. in Sloan. Following McDonald’s severe injuries, he was flown by medical helicopter to MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Hinton School District chose to postpone a game against Westwood until the following day due to the incident and the shock it had on parents, students and families of the school.

In a tweet, Annie Bannany requested that prayers be offered for the students and parents of the area and that the family of the boy be kept in mind at this challenging time; the tweet was met with overwhelming support from the community.
