Valley High School West Des Moines issued the following announcement on June 09.
The Valley High School girls’ varsity soccer team is headed to Class 3A Iowa high school state tournament championship match.
The Tigers, the top seed at this year’s state tournament, beat No. 5 Ankeny Centennial 2-1 in the semifinals Wednesday, June 9, at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines.
Valley improved its record to 20-1, and will face No. 7 Ankeny in the 3A state tournament finale on Friday, June 11. Due to inclement weather, the game will start at 3:30 p.m. and be played on Cownie’s Field 9.
Before the 3A title game, Valley head coach Rob Chapman will be recognized by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) as its 2021 recipient of the Golden Plaque of Distinction Award.
Tickets for Friday’s championship cost $10 — cash only — and can be purchased at the venue. Seating is general admission. Additionally, parking is managed by Des Moines Parks & Recreation and costs $10 daily per car.

About The Tigers This Season
Valley heads into Friday’s match with 20-1 overall record and a 17-match winning streak. The Tigers are led by head coach Rob Chapman, who was recently announced the IGHSAU’s 2021 recipient of the Golden Plaque of Distinction Award.
Going into the 3A championship, junior Anna Van Wyngarden has posted a team-high 30 goals on the season, with 40% of her shots being on goal. Her 30 goals is fourth-best in all of 3A. Senior Catie Johnson ranks second on the team with 19 goals and leads the Tigers with 16 assists.
As a team leading into state, Valley is atop all of 3A in total goals scored, tallying 110 thus far. Defensively, the Tigers have allowed just nine goals all season long.
